{"id":3904,"date":"2026-03-06T14:24:50","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T14:24:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mawea.org\/?post_type=job_listing&#038;p=3904"},"modified":"2026-03-06T14:24:50","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T14:24:50","slug":"town-of-norwood-norwood-ma-26-water-craftsman","status":"publish","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/mawea.org\/index.php\/job\/town-of-norwood-norwood-ma-26-water-craftsman\/","title":{"rendered":"Water Craftsman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Title:<\/strong> Water Craftsman<\/p>\n<p><strong>Department:<\/strong> Public Works, One Lyman Place, Norwood MA 02062<\/p>\n<p><strong>Status:<\/strong> FLSA Non-Exempt, Union, 40 hours per week<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hours:<\/strong>Monday &#8211; Friday 7:00am-3:30pm<\/p>\n<p><strong>Salary:<\/strong> FY26, Grade PW6\u00a0 $29.0306 &#8211; $30.7759 for steps 1-3 (salary range exceeds hiring range)<\/p>\n<p><strong>General Summary: <\/strong><em>The purpose of this position is to perform skilled equipment operation and manual labor in the construction, operation and maintenance of the town\u2019s water system; all related work as required.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential Job Functions: *<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Water\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participates in the construction of extensions to the water distribution system; installs water mains and lines, hydrants, valves, and pumps; excavates trenches and backfills excavations; repairs water mains, service lines, hydrants, and gates.<\/li>\n<li>Responds to emergencies; determines appropriate corrective action; makes repairs of main and service leaks.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Responds to questions and complaints and makes related repairs.<\/li>\n<li>Performs general customer service activities including service turn-ons and shut-offs.<\/li>\n<li>Operates tapping machine, backhoe, front-end loader, and hand operating equipment and power tools.Marks locations of underground water lines in conformance with Dig Safe regulations.<\/li>\n<li>Prepares rough sketches of work performed and submits to supervisor.<\/li>\n<li>Replaces broken or worn parts in systems involved. Digs, braces and backfills areas as required.<\/li>\n<li>Maintains tools, equipment, and facilities related to water system operation.<\/li>\n<li>Maintains availability for emergency or stress situations.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinates with other departments or private contractors. Assists other DPW divisions as necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Skills, Knowledge, &amp; Abilities:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thorough working knowledge of public works equipment operation, water systems equipment and materials<\/li>\n<li>Familiar with AMRs and water meters and backflow devices<\/li>\n<li>Ability to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions and work extended hours as a result of emergencies<\/li>\n<li>Ability to communicate effectively with and follow detailed oral and written instructions of supervisor<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of field safety with the ability to follow proper methods, procedures and safety precautions\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Prior municipal DPW water experience is a plus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Minimum Requirements: *<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High school education; three years of public works construction and maintenance experience including heavy equipment operation experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.<\/li>\n<li>Valid CDL license or CDL permit, required.<\/li>\n<li>Certified Operator-Water Distribution License.<\/li>\n<li>Hydraulic License required.<\/li>\n<li>Participation in the Town\u2019s mandated drug and alcohol random testing program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*This posting is not meant to be inclusive of all job duties or qualification requirements.
